Have You Stepped Up As A Leader?

Plain and simple, a team is only as good as it's leader!  Would you agree that for the most part, we follow our leader and expect them to lead by example?  A leader is truly the one to set the pace for the rest of the team!

Whether you plan on it or not, as a home business owner, a point in time comes when you need to either determine if your business is just a hobby or if you're ready to develop into a leader.  For a select few, this is a mindset shift that happens immediately.  From the time they have one individual to lead, they begin to stand above and see themselves as a true leader. For the others, this is a process.  Sadly for some, they choose not to step up at all.

I wanted to share a leadership quote that sums up leadership beautifully:

"Leadership is understanding people and involving them to help you do a job. That takes all of the good characteristics, like integrity, dedication of purpose, selflessness, knowledge, skill, implacability, as well as determination not to accept failure." ~Admiral Arleigh A. Burke

    Yes, I’m committed to being a leader and I believe in leading by example. For me, it was a process. I grew as a person, watched several successful leaders and learned from what they did, read lots and developed my own philosophy of leadership. I developed what I had to offer. And I grew in my belief in what I call “success together” – - that’s huge for me.

    We have a LOT in common. I have a soft spot for women who want to stay home with their kids too. I am a Christian mom entrepreneur and owner of two online businesses.

    Hi Dani,

    I know this is late, but I really like your new header. Congratulations on your leadership webinar too. I’m sure you’re having a blast having your very own webinar.

    Personally, I’m still very much learning and developing myself as a leader, and one particular group which greatly assists me is Ann Sieg’s Leaders’ Circle (facebook fan page). Their goal is to develop, create, and nurture hot beds of talent. It is also where I get to meet new people and up and coming leaders in the industry.

    I definitely concur that developing oneself as a leader is the best Attraction Marketing method there is! Thanks for sharing a wonderful leadership quote.

    Great points on being the type of leader that people follow. It’s all about setting an example by doing and creating the space for others to excel and be their best. A great team is on the same page and works towards the common goal of the team.

    Good one. And good perspective on this. I have definitely stepped up a long time ago. I never really took my business as a hobby in the beginning but as another means to make a living at first. I really never took it as serious as I should, but it casually grew as time went on. I transitioned to a leader when some complications started to come up in my life and I wanted to make a difference on how I was living. That is when I started to step up more as a leader and putting my priorities to my business first and to the people I’ve met; by leading by example as you stated. That quote really does sum it up really well. Thanks for sharing this Dani

      Steven, your story is similar to mine! Ihad been a leader in my previous career, so I had plans to “just be a mom.” But the truth was I LOVED networking! I realized that this was a perfect fit and I was excited by the opportunity. Wouldn’t have thought that in the beginning, simply wanted a little extra at the time. Thanks for sharing!

    Nice post.
    Sometimes being a leader happens before you know it. You are working your business like you do everyday. You sponsor someone, they need help. You sponsor someone else and your sponsor sponsors someone….etc.. All of a sudden you realize that you are a leader. Now it’s time to stand up and become a true leader. If you do everything you can do to make your partners successful then not only will you become successful.. you are now a leader.

    Hi Dani, thanks for this great post. You are bang on! Some people do not see themselves as leaders so never get there. For me, the passion of helping others over rode any doubts. I am pleased that I ran my own offline business for many years and had a decent staff, as I do believe it made the transition easier. Those who have never been in a ‘leadership’ position might find it a little more difficult. I enjoyed the quote too.

    I would love to visit and participate in your webinar, but unfortunately I am on Pacific Time which would mean it will be 3pm here and I will be at school picking my children up and heading off to their after school activities. :-( Do you record them?

    When I was in college, the college had a Leadership scholarship. You went through a lengthy interview process and had to have quite a bit of leadership positions behind you to qualify. Only 20 people each year would get the scholarship and you are required to take a course on business and leadership.

    It was something comprehensive and in my opinion did loads more than the business courses offered.

    Leaders have to have already mastered following before stepping above and helping those underneath. This is something I have always believe in. :)
